PIAGET MARTELINO

Piaget Martelino is a Filipino visual artist. His style can best be described as having a great sense of design and whimsy. His work attempts to entice the viewer to enjoy and play a while, to stimulate feelings and memories of childhood when life was simple and one's imagination, limitless. The liveliness of his work is primarily achieved by the use of playful patterns, bright and happy colors, visual movement and endless biomorphic shapes.

Martelino’s work has received recognition in the Philippines where he primarily resides. In 2007 he was a finalist in the 2nd Art Association of the Philippines-Exhibition Center for Contemporary Art Abstract Painting Competition as well as the 60th Annual Art Association of the Philippines Art Competition in the sculpture category and a few of his works have been sold in auction. Piaget has exhibited in the Philippines, the United States and New Zealand and his work can be found in private collections around the world. Martelino can be seen painting at his weekly and monthly Art/Music events at different bars and clubs around the metro and at festivals both here and abroad, most recently in New Zealand at the opening night of Tony Piggott's play Giving Up in Christchurch and the Endeavour Festival at the Marlborough Sounds where he was invited to be a guest artist, at the Luna Musicalawaig Arts and Music Festival in Cagayan De Oro, Mindanao and The Electronica Festival. Martelino has also done live art for Absolut Vodka, Ray-Ban, Hurley, Grind and Stance.

In 2011, Martelino gathered a small group of colleagues and friends to get together every other Saturday for sketching sessions at his studio. Eventually taking the name Saturday Sketching Sessions, the group quickly grew into one of the most active art groups in the Country holding at least 3 exhibitions, numerous live art events, sketching sessions, art markets, art talks and other activities every year which all members are encouraged to join.

Martelino founded The Mustache Creative in 2013 which is a loose collective of artists, photographers, film makers, writers, musicians and like-minded people, which serves as a resource pool for various art-focused projects and events.

Recent notable projects of Martelino have been the 150 artists for 150 years Andres Bonifacio Live art event with Bonifaio Global City, the VS MODE Art Battle Series, The Bactreia Art Project for Ogilvy & Mather where he along with 5 members of the Saturday Sketching Session Art Group created artwork using ecolai bacteria at The Philippine Lung Center for a Conzace Multivitamins and the Painting Party at The Philippine Children's Medical Center, a project of The Philippines Foundation where Piaget with the help of volunteers from the Saturday Sketching Sessions Art Group painted murals in the children's cancer wards. Starting this February Martelino will be working with the Philippines Foundation again, this time for the 1000 Boats for Leyte Ptoject where he will do a series of weekend Painting Parties in Tacloban, Leyte where he will paint fishing boats to be given to fishing families that lost their boats during Typhoon Haiyan.

As Piaget continues to experiment and explore, his style steadily evolves and grows but he always stays true to his belief that art is meant to be enjoyed and its creation celebrated.
